With 7 games since Dynamos last victory (Leverstock Green – 22nd January) Steve Bateman was hoping to stop the rot with a win over Broadfields, currently 16th in the league.
Great news that Chris Stapleton was back from injury, but a few more changes were forced upon Steve meaning Gabby Adewolo and Davis Haule were in the starting 11. New signing, Jamie Fulton was amongst the substitutes along with lively winger, Joe Chott.
Broadfields came out the stronger in the first few minutes having a couple of early chances. One was saved by James Weatherill and the other was pulled wide.
However, in the 6th minute, Will Mullarkey found some room and crossed well, Chris Stapleton didn’t connect first time, but squeezed the ball through to Callum Shortt who hit the top corner with a decent shot. 1-0 Dynamos.
A couple of minutes later and Broadfields were almost level. They worked the ball down Dynamos left and their cross was met by their attacker who headed powerfully beating James Weatherill, hitting the crossbar and Weatherill managed to grab the ball just before Broadfields could stab it over the line.
It was a lively start for both teams and Callum Shortt hit a lovely free kick onto the head of Chris Stapleton, who headed on just too far for Terry Griffiths to make contact.
Less than a minute later and Broadfields were level…another attack down the Dynamos left and this time the low cross was converted. 1-1, all square.
20 minutes and some good work from Alfi Touceda saw him play a ball through to Callum Shortt, but the linesman called him offside.
Over half an hour played and the sides had settled down, a nice cross from Alex Mitchell found Alfi Touceda on the edge of the box, but his shot was wide of the mark.
34 minutes and Broadfields were getting more of the ball and made it count to take the lead. A ball threaded through the Dynamos defence was run onto and converted well past James Weatherill. 1-2 Broadfields lead.
Half time: Dynamos 1-2 Broadfields
The first change saw Joe Chott introduced and Gabby Adewolo come off, meaning Davis Haule slotted in alongside Terry Griffiths.
Within the first minute Broadfields extended their lead. A cross from their winger saw them react quickest and slot the ball past James Weatherill from close range. 1-3 Broadfields.
A few minutes later Joe Chott skipped past a challenge and find Dave Brown who took a shot which the keeper saved.
54 minutes and Broadfields were having the lions share of possession, they broke forward and James Weatherill came out, saved with his feet, but the Broadfields players reacted quicker and had a shot towards the empty net…but was inches over. Lucky escape.
At the other end Alfi Touceda sent a ball wide to Callum Shortt and he fizzed in a decent cross to Chris Stapleton who headed past the keeper…what a great goal…no…the linesman somehow gave offside!? Looked onside to most people (Dynamos fans…!).
Broadfields had another shot which Davis Haule managed to block well but in the 71st minutes the nippy Broadfields player raced clear and smashed his shot against the crossbar, hits the line and Alex Mitchell manages to clear the ball. Another lucky escape.
With just over 15 minutes remaining, Dave Brown came off and Jamie Fulton came on for his debut.
Dynamos created a half chance when Jamie Fulton battled well and found Chris Stapleton, but his shot was blocked.
Ivan Otono was introduced for the final 5 minutes, coming on for Ollie Lawford.
89 minutes and a glimmer of hope…! Joe Chott was fouled in the centre of the pitch and his quick free kick sent Chris Stapleton clean through and he beat the keeper. 2-3 Broadfields.
Any hope of a last gasp equaliser was ended less than 60 seconds later as Broadfields went straight down the Dynamos end and a decent shot lobber James Weatherill and restored their 2 goal lead.
Final Score: AVDFC 2-4 Broadfields
